The Gothenburg Book Fair, known as Bokmässan, is the Nordic region’s largest cultural gathering dedicated to books, literature, knowledge, and ideas. Held at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, the four-day event brings together more than 80,000 visitors, 800+ exhibitors and more than 300 seminars, making it an important meeting place for both the publishing industry and the general public.

The 2026 edition places particular emphasis on Québec, popular education and games, with Québec serving as the Guest of Honour. The Québec focus creates an opportunity to showcase Francophone literature, authors, publishing, translation and cultural exchange with Sweden and the wider Nordic region.

The program extends well beyond conventional book displays. Visitors can attend author conversations, literary debates, seminars, book signings, cultural programs and activities for children. A new “Bokmässan på stan” concept will also take parts of the program outside the main exhibition center and into Gothenburg, turning the city itself into an expanded literary stage.

For professionals, the fair provides an excellent environment for publisher networking, rights discussions, author discovery, literary translation and understanding Nordic reading and publishing trends.
