The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL Guadalajara) is one of the world's most important Spanish-language publishing events and the largest publishing gathering in Latin America. The 2026 edition will celebrate its 40th anniversary from November 28 to December 6 at Expo Guadalajara. Italy will be the Guest of Honour, bringing Italian literature, art, music, gastronomy and other cultural expressions into the program.

FIL is unique because it operates simultaneously as a major professional publishing marketplace and a huge public cultural festival. Publishers, literary agents, authors, booksellers, librarians, translators, distributors and rights professionals meet alongside hundreds of thousands of readers.

The professional side is particularly important for international publishing. FIL provides opportunities for rights trading, translation agreements, publishing partnerships, distribution, author representation and international networking. The fair also maintains dedicated professional services and a Rights Center for industry participants.

For the general public, the event offers author presentations, book launches, literary discussions, cultural performances, children's programming, exhibitions and entertainment. The city itself becomes part of the cultural experience, with Guadalajara hosting a wide range of activities around the fair.

For publishers targeting Spanish-speaking readers, Latin America or the international translation market, FIL Guadalajara is arguably one of the most strategically important events on the annual publishing calendar.
