Disclaimer & Content Sources
Last Updated: April 12, 2026
The information provided on BooksAffair (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is for general informational
and community purposes in connection with our book discovery and social reading services.
This page explains how book-related data and other content appear on the platform. It
supplements our
Terms of Use and
Privacy Policy and does not replace them. Nothing here
is legal advice.
1. Third-party book catalog services and attribution
To populate and enrich book records (for example titles, authors, identifiers, and
descriptive metadata), we obtain information through application programming interfaces
(APIs) and similar integrations. You must not treat such data as an independent BooksAffair
proprietary database; our use is to operate the Service in line with each provider’s
terms.
- Google Books API. We may use Google’s Books API in accordance with the
Google APIs Terms of Service, the
Google Books APIs Additional Terms, and related Google policies.
That typically includes requirements around attribution, acceptable use, and limits on
how certain content (such as previews or thumbnails) may be displayed or stored. Where
we show Google-sourced material, we may display attribution such as
“Data provided by Google Books” or similar wording as required.
- ISBNdb (paid API). We may use ISBNdb’s paid API subject to
ISBNdb’s
applicable terms of service, licence, and subscription. Commercial use may be permitted
under your account type, but restrictions may apply—for example on redistribution of
raw data, bulk export, or reselling their dataset. We do not authorise you to extract
or republish ISBNdb-sourced data outside the Service in violation of those terms. Where
appropriate, we may display attribution such as “Data provided by ISBNdb”.
We do not claim ownership of third-party catalog data except as necessary to operate the
Service under those agreements. Trademarks, book covers, descriptions, previews, and
related materials may be protected by third-party rights; they remain the property of their
respective owners.
2. No scraping; APIs only
BooksAffair is not a substitute for licensing or downloading third-party datasets outside
the APIs we use. You must not use the Service to scrape, harvest, or systematically extract
book data in ways that violate our Terms of Use, any API
provider’s terms, or applicable law.
3. User-generated content
Most features that are not automated catalog enrichment are user-generated, including
reviews, ratings, comments, BookVerse lists, social interactions, recommendations, profile
content, and similar material. That content reflects the views or information supplied by
the relevant users only and does not necessarily represent the views of BooksAffair.
We are not responsible for user-generated content, but we may remove or restrict content
that violates our policies or applicable law, as described in our
Terms of Use and
Review Guidelines.
4. Author-submitted and manually entered book details
Authors and other eligible users may add or update book information on the platform. Those
fields are user- or author-provided for purposes of operating the Service. You should not
assume every field on a book page came from a third-party API.
5. Accuracy, availability, and no endorsement
While we strive to keep information useful, we make no warranties or representations
of any kind regarding the reliability, accuracy, completeness, or availability of any
content on the platform, including API-sourced metadata or user posts. Listing or
displaying a book, author, or publisher does not imply endorsement, partnership, or
affiliation unless we say so explicitly.
6. Copyright and intellectual property complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your intellectual property or other rights,
please follow the notice and contact process in our
Terms of Use (including our copyright and takedown
section). You may also reach us via our
contact page or the contact details in our
Privacy Policy. We may remove or disable access to
material where appropriate.
7. Agreement
By using the Service, you agree to our Terms of Use and
Privacy Policy.
8. Changes
We may update this page or the third-party services we use. When we do, we will revise the
“Last Updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of
the updated disclaimer to the extent described in our
Terms of Use.
