ive data wirelessly, minimizing the need for wired connections. Wireless networks are used to complement rather than replace wired networks and are most commonly used to provide the final stage of connectivity between mobile users and wired networks.
Wireless networks use electromagnetic waves to transmit information from one point to another without relying on physical connections. Radio waves are often referred to as radio bearers because their sole function is to deliver energy to distant receivers. The transmitted data is superimposed on the radio bearer so that it can be accurately extracted at the receiving end. When data is superimposed (modulated) onto a radio carrier, the frequency or bit rate of the modulating information is added to the carrier so that the radio signal occupies multiple frequencies.
Bluetooth and WiFi have dramatically changed the way people connect and communicate with their devices in their daily lives. Bluetooth is a low-power, short-range technology for ad-hoc cable replacement. It allows people to pair devices wirelessly wherever they are.
Conversely, WiFi is a medium-range, medium-speed Ethernet-based technology. It allows people to wirelessly access an organization's network at campus locations. These technologies share a common GHz band, may have overlapping applications, and while they have competed with each other in the press, they do not compete and even combine well for enterprise use.
