ed healing. They discover an eleven-year old boy who is being sold for sex by his step-father and try to rescue him. They become involvded with Social Services, the court system, and Domestic Violence programs in efforts to help him.
The court case initially does not go well, and they are thrown back into a test of their progress. Will they resort to old coping methods which are destructive or will they find inner strength from new relationships and positive ways to grow?
Profound changes come to the five protagonists, two men and three women, who suffer from bi-polar disorder and various degrees of dissociation. The resolution of the case involving the boy is a triumph for the child and his mother, but also for each character. Courage and hope replace self blame and hatred.
Part One of the book gives detailed and realistic case histories of the five characters from the point of view of social workers, significant others, and from the characters themselves at different time periods
