obiography,' my having no other 'claim to fame' than to have lived the very ordinary and routine life of a poor Texan. Americans have long since come to associate autobiographies with persons of eminence in finance, politics, etc., a state of being to which I can lay no claim. And I don't know that I would care to, at least beyond the needs, not the wants, that my old age may entail. Despite some moments of anxiety, I have lived my life up to this point much as I willed it, happy and free of illness or financial woes. In short, if I had my life to live over, I don't know that I would seek to change it drastically. Much of this is due to an understanding wife and children, whose misfortune it was to have to tolerate me.
