He was the second of four children born to Irish immigrants, Mary and John Lynch. He served with honor as a United States paratrooper during World War II. After the war ended, he married Katherine Wendling, his childhood sweetheart, and raised two daughters. He died in 1970 when his eldest daughter was 19 years old; his youngest, 15 years old. He wrote the three children's novels in this collection for his small children. He was a house painter by trade.
