was assigned to the leprosarium at Spanish Town, Jamaica, West Indies, during World War II. The Sergeant had arrived earlier to care for the medical needs of the troops stationed at Fort Simonds, a Lend-Lease Base, located about thirty miles from the leprosarium. He had visited often, bringing much needed recreational equipment, entertainment and treats for the more than 200 victims of leprosy crowded behind stone walls. Many would spend their entire lives there without hope. The Sergeant was transferred to the European Theater of War, and the Nun's mission assignment was cut short by serious health problems. After the war, the Sergeant went on to pursue his studies toward a career in Administrative Medicine while the Nun was assigned to the Community Development Office in Massachusetts, using her many talents to bring awareness to the work of the Community. Her writing skills resulted in several Literary Awards while her lectures took her to every State in the Union, resulting in a legion of friends many of whom were luminaries in the entertainment world. The Sergeant founded an organization to aid the victims of leprosy around the world and the Nun was assigned to assist him. For more than 50 years, until her death in 1995, they shared their successes and failures. This book is a loving chronicle of their journey.
