A descriptive comparative design was used to identify whether there was a difference in the spiritual needs of elderly Christian widowers and elderly Christian married men. Spousal loss has been shown to have devastating effects upon male survivors. The problems that men experience in relation to the loss of their spouses are strikingly different that their female counterparts. Widowers "the forgotten men" have been underrepresented in studies of bereavement. Further research is required in order to implement programs to assist elderly widowers in their transition to widowhood. A spiritual needs assessment tool was developed by Eleanor Williams, a nurse, to identify spiritual needs of clients. The spiritual needs assessment tool was used to identify the spiritual needs of the elderly Christian Widower. One will find that the assessment tool can be utilized to assess the spiritual needs of anyone who has experienced any loss.
