rom The Ohio State College of Medicine in 1983. He was chief resident during his last year of his Internal Medicine residency in 1986, which was completed at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He started working as a trauma emergency room physician at the completion of his residency and continued to practice as a trauma physician for ten years, until 1996. He became board certified in Internal Medicine in 1988. In 1996, Dr. Thompson gave up emergency medicine to begin a practice in Bariatrics, which is the treatment of obesity. In 1998, he became one of the first physicians to practice Internet medicine and to offer weight loss medications via the Internet to those patients afflicted with obesity. In July of 1999, he became the first physician in the United States to be indicted for practicing Internet medicine. His trial should occur in mid 2000. He faces years of imprisonment if convicted and wants this book to be a part of his defense against the hypocrisy associated with the current treatment of obesity, as well as the misinformation being promulgated concerning Internet medicine.
