o realities. The first a world at once deceptive, cruel, impersonal, and chaotic, and the second redeemed from itself, emanating from its own roots, aware of its own sourcesthis poetry is not an echo or an imitation but a response to a Calling whose depths cannot be analyzed. The long narrative poem, oddly titled The Death of Iaoldaboath, provides a psychological summary of history, of what made history from a gnostic point of view, then shifts into a paranoid pretensive Lazarus, giving the historical record a mystical Christian twist at the end. As disturbing a poem perhaps as Yeats' The Second Coming this is a book of poetry which has at last bridged the gap between a narrow channeling of academic language into a powerful synthesis for spiritual and cognitive recognition. Lysons' poetic voice will long be heard into the next century.
