About the Author
Charles E. Stokes, product of a long line of enterprising southern Stokes businessmen, received his B.B.A. from the University of Texas in 1948, managed the wool export firm of Stokes & Co. for many years in Peru, received his M.A. degree in history and economics from University of Texas, El Paso, in 1968, received a Fulbright Fellowship for research in South America in 1970 with subsequent granting of his Ph.D. in history from Tulane University in 1974.
