g to mind, but after those, the list completely withers up and dies. Bluntly put, Robert G. Lee’s Nursery Rhymes For Modern Times is the War and Peace of nursery rhyme books.
Were he alive, Dr.Suess would be green with envy in a house, with a mouse, calling the author a louse. Shel Silverstein would go back to his stump of a Giving Tree and beg for a sequel.
What’s truly amazing about this tome is why such an obvious idea took so long to jump to the fore. Parents have been reciting antiquated Mother Goose rhymes to their offspring for hundreds of years, seemingly oblivious to the fact that not a single one makes any sense, nor are any of them culturally relevant.
Thankfully Robert G. Lee saw, came and conquered the problem, in a paperback edition, no less. Presented in the tongue-firmly-in-cheek tradition of Goodnight iPad and Where The Wild Moms Are, parents can now amuse themselves as they read or sing to their children at bed time.
We would heartily suggest buying several copies of this book without delay as once it wins the Pulitzer, the price will undoubtedly go up twenty to thirty cents.
As to Robert’s next project, he is considering either rewriting the Constitution or workshopping a musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton.
