Lisa’s life takes a dramatic turn when, a year later while driving the Percheron and a new horse, the new horse spooks, leading to an accident that makes Lisa realize she needs to leave her troubled marriage. She moves to Tennessee with her four horses to regroup at a friend’s house.
Three months later, feeling a divine prompting, Lisa returns to Minnesota. At a team penning event, she meets Paul, who shares her love for horses and faith. Over the next few months, they spent time trail riding, team penning, and playing cribbage together.
Lisa takes a job at a dude ranch teaching people to ride, rope, and work cows. Her new boss needs another wrangler and asks if she could recommend anyone. She gives him a few names and numbers—Paul being one of them. Two weeks later, Paul moves into staff quarters. Working together allows Lisa to see how he handles stress. Despite growing closer, Lisa turns down his marriage proposals twice.
After fifteen months, Paul accepts a job in South Dakota, and Lisa agrees to sell his Minnesota house. They maintain close contact despite the distance. Five months later, the house sells, and Lisa has six weeks to find a new job and place to live. What will she do next? Will her relationship with Paul withstand the challenges ahead?
