Controlled by her new and nefarius employer, Zerah Colburn, Lizzy quickly finds herself on board Brunel's Great Eastern, then the world's largest and most famous passenger liner, bound for New York on her maiden voyage. In America, Lizzy becomes trapped in a bewildering chain of events, including marriage to Zerah in a drab ceremony in a glitzy New York hotel, before travelling to Philadelphia.
