ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
"If we understand how ageism works and where it manifests, we may identify it and contend it. We will also be able to free ourselves from the stereotypical definitions of old age and youth, and define for ourselves what we want to be and do in each moment in life."
How old are you?
Up front, this question seems totally harmless, but the answer might determine if you get a job, if you have access to medical treatment, or even the way friends and family speak to you.
We are talking about "ageism."
The Age Trap is an exciting exploration of this pervasive social phenomenon that affects us throughout life, and constitutes the most paradoxical "-ism" by becoming a bias against our future selves.
Doctor and anthropologist Vânia de la Fuente Núñez tells us how ageism is produced and manifested. Through real life stories and extensive research, the author vividly illustrates the harmful effects of ageism in our health and the multitude of ways exclusion, inequality, and marginalization of old and young people is perpetuated. This book offers a series of tools to detect ageism and face it, pushing readers towards the creation of a more inclusive, equitable, and fair world: a world for every age.
