Their jobs as caregivers are being made harder by the availability of cheap synthetic opiates and cannabis that cancels out the effects of their loved ones medications.
One of the many families Karl works with is the Rodrigues family. Their son Miguel has been cycling in and out of psychiatric hospitals, jails and homelessness for years. His interaction with law enforcement is threatening his immigration status. The majority of inmates that complete suicide in ICE detention have a schizophrenia related disorder.
Anna Wu loses her student Visa when she doesn't work out at Georgia Tech. She is horrified of being sent back to China. Annaβs parents disowned her after her transition to being a woman. Anna, Miguel and Karl do their best in an unforgiving system that has been exacerbated by the COVID 19 pandemic.
