rony and doubt, threading the shoals of fragmentation and disenchantments with delicacy and a highly attuned ear. From Library Journal Shapiro's latest book of poems is a well-crafted, quietly intricate examination of the structure, and the deconstruction, of reality. Recurrent themes include architecture, things in pieces, component parts of exterior structures (bits of a broken cup, or bricks in a wall) standing in for interior structure (self, dreams, poetry). Disappointingly, however, Shapiro's ideas and concerns stay within a fairly traditional sense of poetics, which seems to constrain the imaginative, even humorous energy running just below the surface of these poems.Jessica Grim, NYPLCopyright 1988 Reed Business Information, Inc.
