It is a dialogue in verse between a woman who moves to the country to find a new life, and the farmer who in time becomes more than a neighbor, celebrating the redemptive power of nature and the unexpected possibility of love.
Of the balance of the poems in the book, editor Larry Moore writes "This is the sort of poetry you get from a woman who has gotten up and gone to work, cared for a child (and still been a child herself to her parents, paid the bills, read serious books, thought serious thoughts, and risked love and rejection, all between rising and resting in a typical day - that is, if the woman is also a skilled practitioner of weaving experience into language."
About the Author
After a childhood spent in England and several locations around the United States, Sheila Bucy Potter has lived most of her adult life in Kentucky. She has degrees in English and History from Murray State University; an MA in Medieval Literature from Southern Illinois University; and post-graduate work in English Literature at the University of Kentucky. Selections from "Home Place" have appeared previously in The Journal of Kentucky Studies, and she received a performance grant from the Frankfort Arts Foundaton for selected readings from the cycle in 2003.
Her work was nominated for the 2003 Kentucky Literary Award for poetry and the Pushcart Prize.
