Review "I was transported to New Orleans. This multicast production blends and meshes together like a spicy gumbo of music, effects and dialogue. Innovative and unique. You won't be disappointed in this groundbreaking audio theatre work. Dana Dyer Pierson is one of the finest sound designers working in the industry today." -- Bennet Pomerantz, AudioWorld, January 17, 2000 "Luscious! I just loved it." -- Diane Chapman, KUCI Radio (Irvine, CA) From the Publisher Most audio theatre, and all audiobooks, is recorded in a neutral studio environment. This means that the engineer can capture a clean vocal track -- no extraneous noise like cars or wind or birds or airplanes. They then add this element from a sound effects recording and music, and carefully mix these elements together to create the illusion of a "natural" environment. Most audio producers insist on taping each actor's line separately -- meaning that an actor will go into a studio and record ONLY his lines. They'll probably never even meet the other people in their scene! The engineers will later combine these lines with the other actors lines to artificially create a "conversation" which never happened! Mind's Ear approaches audio a bit differently. We DON'T isolate our actors in a sterile studio environment and we certainly don't isolate them from each other. We feel that the warmth and reality of face-to-face human interaction is crucial to great audio storytelling. (We confess that we had to do this in a whopping 3 out of 153 scenes...for logistical reasons...) We feel that the "extraneous" sounds that we capture when we tape on location are what make our sound unique. So when you listen to our work, you are hearing what our actors heard as they were creating this series for you. Scenes set in a park were recorded in a park. Scenes set in a kitchen were recorded in a kitchen -- and the actors, not a foley team in post-production, washed the dishes. Scenes set in the Bayou Leave Bed & Breakfast were recorded in our home. In addition, we spent a good deal of time in and around New Orleans recording a major character in this story: the city itself. So when you hear our characters walking down the street in the Quarter...you're actually hearing the Quarter itself in the background! We are passionate about sound. That's why we create audio theatre. Mind's Ear productions don't sound like every other audio theatre show in the world -- and we're quite proud of that You can learn more about Mind's Ear at our website at http://www.minds-ear.org. You can also listen to audio samples of our work! From the Author We created "French Quarter" because we love New Orleans. "French Quarter" is a project near and dear to our hearts. We have never been satisfied with the way New Orleans has been portrayed in popular literature - so we set out to create a dynamic, contemporary audio theatre experience which would bring the listener back to the Quarter with every listening. Presented in clear digital audio, including the sounds of the city itself, "Fr
