Even Start, a federally funded family literacy program, has three interrelated goals: (1) to help parents become full partners in their children's education; (2) to assist children in reaching their full potential as learners; and (3) to provide literacy training for participating parents. To meet these goals, Even Start projects coordinate the provision of early childhood education, adult literacy or adult basic education, and parenting education.
