ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
El tren pasa primero (First Comes the Train) is the great novel about the railroad movement of the late 1950s in Mexico, which ended up being crushed by the violent repression of the government and the imprisonment of its leaders.
Nothing was the same for Trinidad Pineda Chiñas since he saw a train pass in front of him for the first time. From then on, the whistle of a train, the hustle and bustle on the platforms, the shoves, and the smell of asphalt gave meaning to his life. Inspired by the figure of Demetrio Vallejo, this novel (winner of the 2007 Rómulo Gallegos Prize and translated into several languages) is the portrait of an era and a tribute to the men and women behind the great railroad movement of the late 1950s in Mexico, which ended up being crushed by the violent repression of the government and the imprisonment of its leaders.
The Elena Poniatowska Library gathers the narrative, essayistic, and historical work of the writer who best knew how to tell the epic of the underprivileged. In El tren pasa primero, she evokes a world now almost disappeared: that of the great locomotives that united the country and transported its families and dreams.
