ow children to choose what goes with a given object. For example, when a hammer is show, children must click on either a nail or ice cream to show which object corresponds to the hammer. After completing three questions, the program shows whether the answers were correct. Progress is marked on a path of footprints at the bottom of the screen. When all the questions have been answered, users have the opportunity to go back and correct the wrong answers. Brief animations and games appear between the "Does It Belong?" segments as a reward for continuing through the program. After answering all the questions correctly, children can print out a certificate or choose to go back and play any of the three games again. The games are fun and challenging for older preschoolers, but may be frustrating for younger children. For example, one game involves catching quickly falling ice cream scoops in a cone, and another involves bouncing a ball on a turtle's back to get it into a goal. Instructions are printed onscreen as well as spoken, and can be repeated by clicking on the words. In at least one case, the directions are confusing, as they state "Click on what does not belong in this picture" without specifying that players must click on more than one thing. While the program does allow children to correct mistakes, it does not offer suggestions or prompts to help them. The paperback workbook includes many of the same object-pairing questions found on the CD-ROM, but may be useful to reinforce the lessons. This program's bright, child-friendly graphics and simple design make it a natural for use with preschoolers, but the lack of feedback necessitates adult guidance.
