About the Author Ever since Mary Helen Coffeen's parents told her their adventures going from Texas to New Mexico in a covered wagon, she had wanted to travel. After she grew up she got interested in chemistry, and got a degree in it. Then she married, and later her father showed her an ad for employment on a seismograph crew. Her husband answered it and was hired, and they began moving from town to town. She found ways to live and raise a family in various houses, small apartments, large ones, good ones and bad ones, trailer houses, and hotel rooms. But none of the adaptations had prepared her for the move to Indonesia. She had got her wish to travel. More than that -- she traveled not as a tourist, but as a resident in many places. She co-authored an unpublished science fiction novel, and has done proofreading and editing of her husband's books about seismic exploration. And the third and last time she lived in Jakarta, she wrote this book about her adventures living there.
