ं रह गया। उसे सामाजिक विज्ञान का एक छोटा सा अंश बना दिया गया है। फलतः छात्रों को अपने देश के इतिहास से पूरा परिचय नहीं हो पाता। वे अपने पूर्वजों की आन, बान और शान से, उनके त्याग व बलिदान से उनकी शूरता एवं वीरता से परिचित नहीं हो पा रहे हैं। उनमें राष्ट्रीयता की भावना का लोप होने लगा है। यह स्थिति चिंताजनक है। सरकार, शिक्षक सबका दायित्व है कि वे छात्रों में इतिहास प्रेम जगाने का प्रयास करें।
भारतीय इतिहास की यह पुस्तक मैंने इसी भावना से प्रेरित होकर लिखी है। मैंने इसमें मुख्य रूप से मुगलकालीन एवं ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत की राजनैतिक, सामाजिक, धार्मिक, आर्थिक और सांस्कृतिक दशाओं पर प्रकाश डालने का एक छोटा सा प्रयास किया है। मैंने छात्रों को यह बताने का प्रयास किया है कि हमारे इतिहास ने कहाँ-कहाँ चूक की है, जिसका लाभ उठाकर विदेशियों ने कितनी बार हमारे सोने की चिडि़या के पर कुतरने की कोशिश की है। फिर भी हम अपनी अस्मिता को बचाए रखे हैं। पुस्तक की सफलता या विफलता तो पाठकों के निर्णय पर है।BHARAT KA ITIHAS by Yogendra Prasad: This book is an exploration of the history of India.
