Miss Read wrote 30 novels about life in Thrush Green and nearby Fairacre. Each one of them carries the reader into cozy and complex small town life. The battles are over such things as how to tidy up the cemetary, whether a son should go to boarding school, whether Dotty should drive, and what to do about the new schoolteacher. Gwen Watford reads with gentle humor and understanding. Her voice is not too plummy, although one definitely hears a county style. This production will delight fans of the American Mitford series by Jan Karon. B.H.B. (c) AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine--
