usly as they affect trains' safe operation besides the loss of life and property. Among all these events, derailment is the prominent reason among all for an accident. However, many derailments are minor, all resulting in a temporary disruption of the railway system's proper operation, and they are potentially seriously hazardous to human health and safety. Usually, collision derailments of a train can be caused by collision with another object, operational error, mechanical failure of the track, or Rolling stock's failure. Earlier derailments were commonplace but progressively improve safety measures have resulted in a stable lower level of such incident
The prevention of accidents due to derailment is a complicated and multidisciplinary subject; therefore, it requires various departments' knowledge. To fill up this knowledge gap in the track-related area, Mr Lokesh Singh has authored this book titled "Derailment: Contribution of Track observations" in Devanagari, targeting Hindi language readers and analysed various reasons responsible for the derailment. Author Lokesh Singh is a railway engineer by profession and has 22 years long experience in this subject. Ministry of Railways awarded this book Lal Bahadur Shastri Award. It is hoped that the book will help avid readers, especially railway employees, improve their knowledge in this technical subject and build enhanced safety in the entire railway network.
