Told through rhyme, Abebi introduces us to all of the important people in her life who are by Abebi's side as she deals with issues of bullying and low self-esteem, among others. Each of Abebi's family and friends has an African name that begins with a different letter of the alphabet and whose meaning shows us just why they are important in Abebi's life. In the end, Abebi comes to realize the importance of both self-acceptance and self-love.
