Vladimir Sergeyevich Solovyov (1853-1900) was a Russian philosopher, theologian, and poet. He wrote five major works (two left unfinished) before his death at 47. In opposition to the empiricist rationalism of his time, Solovyov attempted to integrate his Orthodox Christian faith with philosophy, science, and ethics. He encountered opposition for his desire to see Eastern Orthodoxy reunited with the Catholic Church.
