े कि उनके लिए भारतीय सेनाओं को पराजित करना संभव नहीं है तथा वे पूर्वी पाकिस्तान का बलिदान करने के लिए तैयार थे। वहीं उन्हें यह भी विश्वास था कि वे पश्चिम में एक विशाल क्षेत्र पर कब्जा करके पूर्वी पाकिस्तान की क्षतिपूर्ति कर लेंगे तथा इसके द्वारा ‘वे न केवल भारत को नीचा दिखाने और अपना सम्मान बनाए रखने में सफल रहेंगे; अपितु युद्ध के अंत में अपेक्षाकृत बेहतर स्थिति में होंगे।’
परंतु सन् 1971 में भारत के जाँबाज सैनिकों ने पाकिस्तान के नब्बे हजार सैनिकों को बंदी बनाकर ऐसा करिश्मा कर दिखाया; जो सारी दुनिया में बेजोड़ था। इस पुस्तक में 1971 की शानदार विजय की गौरव गाथा के साथ-साथ उड़ी क्षेत्र में सन् 1947-48 तथा 1965 के दौरान 161 इन्फैंट्री ब्रिगेड एवं अन्य सैन्य टुकड़ियों के द्वारा उनके नियंत्रण-क्षेत्रों में उनके द्वारा किए गए सैन्य अभियानों पर भी विस्तार से प्रकाश डाला गया है। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल के.के. नंदा ने अपनी 161 इन्फैंट्री ब्रिगेड का नेतृत्व करते हुए रक्षात्मक युद्ध लड़ा और अपनी बहादुरी एवं दूरदर्शिता से भारत की एक इंच भूमि भी दुश्मन के कब्जे में नहीं जाने दी।
